About Paul M. Ross, Jr.

St. Louis native and Northwestern University alumnus Paul M. Ross, Jr. has worked since 1996 as a Firefighter/EMT in the Northern Rockies and Southwest on Forest Fire and Helicopter Firefighting/Rescue assignments.

He is also a professional writer and photographer, producing marketing writeups, press releases, technical writing, company and product profiles as well as feature magazine articles focused on firefighting, helicopters and fire aviation. Ross maintains a stock portfolio of photos covering firefighting, helicopter operations and scenic subjects from throughout the Mountain West.

From 1991 to 1996 he was a banker in Chicago. He has been a volunteer Firefighter/EMT since graduating college in 1991.

Ross has served as a Helitack Squad Leader for Grand Canyon Helitack, the helicopter crew that provides firefighting and Emergency Medical Services in and around Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park and travels nationally on wildfire and fire aviation operations. Prior to this, he worked as an Initial Attack Helicopter Rappeller for Moyer Helitack, responding to fires in Idaho’s Salmon-Challis National Forest and the Frank Church Wilderness, the Lower 48’s largest wilderness area.

Firefighting assignments in the past have taken him to his favorite state in the West, Idaho, as well as all the other western and southwestern states and of course, Missouri.

Ross is a volunteer Firefighter/EMT in his home state of Missouri with both Eureka Fire Protection District outside St. Louis and LaBelle Fire District.

His articles and photos appear in Air & Space Smithsonian, FireRescue Magazine, Wildland Firefighter Magazine, Firehouse Magazine, National Fire & Rescue Magazine, JEMS, Rotor & Wing, VERTICAL Magazine as well as The LaBelle Star.
